bike stands for gear fettling? - Singletrack Cheap dodgy bike stands for gear fettling? - Singletrack

Bike repair stands lift both wheels high off the ground and need to to be really stable so you can work on your bike without it falling over. This gives them a big footprint, which isn't ideal if you're just after a storage solution. Like all the repair stands at this price point, there are a lot of plastic parts (where more expensive stands use metal). And this raises questions about it’s durability over time. Likewise, stands like the IceToolz or even the Topeak Flash Stand are half way houses that are going to be frustrating to use and will ultimately be replaced by a proper stand!Didn’t mean for this to drift onto this but why would you even risk damaging a lovely frame just for the sake of clamping it. Have a read of these below. As I mentioned, I also can’t clamp to the seat post (carbon as well of course) as I won’t have enough exposed. However, if you’re a mechanic, who’ll be using their repair stand on a daily basis, on lots of different bikes (or your a weekend mechanic who’s not particularly cost conscious), then it makes sense to spend more. The clamp is easy to use, with a wide opening that can fit even the fattest frames and it can be rotated through 360° (like all bike stands) to ensure you can manoeuvre the bike in any position you like.

Pro Bike Display Stand | Chain Reaction

a) a brilliant invention as they’re tiny for storage, cheap, won’t damage your carbon frame by clamping and stable enough for fiddling with mechs; or It uses the same clamp head as the Bike Hand YC-100BH floor stand (see above). But in this case it’s attached to a metal T bar with a square plate at the bottom, which you will need to bolt onto your work bench (bolts not included!).

They’re a display stand. Better than nothing, but you’re not going to want to use if for any serious work. Unless there’s a very specific reason to not go with a clamping repair stand (some people worry about the clamps damaging their carbon fibre frames), they should be the default choice for both casual and more serious mechanics. Sliding Clamps vs Claw Clamps Can’t use it with thru axles. Can’t use it without a wheel in the frame. The legs are in the way for a lot of fettling with gears or brakes. With 142 products available we worked out that 121 cost more than Pro Bike Display Stand and 20 were cheaper. Cost of Pro products This makes it perfect for those that want to make adjustments or repairs when they’re at race meets or up mountains, as it will take up very little luggage space.
